Ride to Cure Diabetes

Piedmont Triad Chapter Riders Participating in 2011 JDRF Rides in Burlington, Vermont; La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Tucson, Arizona!

Like its Walks to Cure Diabetes, JDRF’s Ride to Cure Diabetes program provides a tremendous opportunity for supporters to raise funds for type 1 research. Each year, JDRF organizes a variety of rides—for cyclists of all fitness levels—across the country. Riders choose to cycle 30, 62, or 100 miles. In 2011, Rides are scheduled for:

  • Burlington, Vermont (July 28-31, 2011)
  • La Crosse, Wisconsin (August 11-14, 2011)
  • Lake Tahoe, Nevada (September 9-12, 2011)
  • Death Valley, California (October 13-16, 2011)
  • Tucson, Arizona (November 17-20, 2011)

This year, members of the Piedmont Triad Chapter ride team—led by coach Ian Joyce—are participating in the Burlington, La Crosse, and Tucson Rides. Each rider pays a $100 registration fee (which counts toward his/her fundraising requirement) and commits to raising a certain amount of dollars for JDRF. In return, JDRF (through Ian’s efforts) provides training and fundraising guidance. JDRF also covers each rider’s expenses, including flights and transportation of bikes to and from the Ride site, weekend accommodations, support throughout the Ride, and meals.

The Piedmont Triad Chapter riders are a committed group! And even though all of them can’t participate in one of the five major JDRF Rides every year, they still strive to do everything they can to find a cure. That’s why, in both 2009 and 2010, the group hosted the Hammering Happy Hill Ride right here in the Piedmont Triad.
