Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes
Why should families and businesses have all the fun? With JDRF’s Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes program, schools can also raise money—both to find a cure for type 1 and to fund their own needs.
The Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes is an educational school fundraising program that raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. While raising money for JDRF, students learn about diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices. The money raised through this program helps fund type 1 diabetes research and provides additional dollars for your school to use for equipment, field trips, books, or whatever you need!
Schools keep 10% of the money they raise through the Kids Walk, and students earn fun prizes based on the amount of money they collect.
Piedmont Triad 2011-2012 Kids Walks scheduled…still time to schedule one at your school!
Background: Kids Walks in the Piedmont Triad
In the fall of 2009, Forbush Elementary School, in East Bend, North Carolina, hosted its first-ever Kids Walk. This Walk was one of the reasons the American Diabetes Association named Forbush one of only seven “Superstar Schools” nationwide in 2009-2010. With less than 400 students, this Yadkin County school raised over $2,000 to help JDRF find a cure. In 2010, Forbush Elementary held another Kids Walk—and Forbush Middle School explored the opportunity to host one, too!
Two other Piedmont Triad schools—Walkertown Elementary in Forsyth County, and Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Greensboro—also hosted Kids Walks in 2009-2010, raising more than $3,000 and $1,000, respectively, to help find a cure for type 1.
