
Individuals and JDRF in the Piedmont Triad
Just as JDRF itself was founded in 1970 by a group of individuals—parents of children with type 1 diabetes—the Piedmont Triad Chapter [link to our “About” landing page] was formed in 1994 after Leslie Anne Hummel rode her bike across the country, raising over $65,000 for type 1 research in honor of her sister Elizabeth, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1982 at the age of 12.
Since then, hundreds of volunteers have worked closely with the Piedmont Triad Chapter staff on every initiative, raising millions of dollars for diabetes research and bringing us many steps closer to a cure.
